This section of the site presents match results and player statistics for the County's teams in inter-county competitions. Board-by-board results of each match can be found on the SCCU Website, to which appropriate links can be found on each team page. Criteria for inclusion in these statistics: All games played by Essex teams in the SCCU Counties' competitions, and the ECF stages, and SCCU Jamboree(s) are included. Players' tables are sorted in descending order of points totals; within each score group, records are sorted according to average. Grading performance: In each table the end column, headed "Perf.", gives the player's grading performance for the results shown where three or more gradeable results are entered (eg: defaulted games not graded). Note that a player who has played for more than one team may not have a grading performance shown in the individual team record(s), but may have one shown on the Aggregate table if he has achieved a minimum of three gradeable results overall. The Grading Performance figures shown are given for information only and have no official status. Downloads: Team Stats | Match tables
Lads, you've done us proud! The only Essex team to make it through to the Finals, the U100 squad brought home the Leicester bacon in a Final victory of 8½-3½ over Warwickshire - a repeat of last year's success. Congratulations to the team and all the squad throughout the season, to Malcolm and his splendid organisation skills. Essex is proud of you! Read more...
Essex U100 qualify for ECF Finals! The match against Lancashire as played on 11 June finished 6-6 with Lancs going through on board count. However, since then, after a series of claims and counter-claims, the result has been amended to Essex 7-4 Lancs and Essex U100 team is in the Final to defend their crown. Following the match, Essex claimed a Lancashire player was ineligible. This claim was upheld and the score adjusted to 7-4 to Essex. Lancs appealed. The appeal was denied. Then Lancs counter-claimed that the Essex board order infringed the rules. This claim was dismissed. Essex qualify. Match Details | Read ruling...
U160s sail past Warks The U180 team could only add to Essex board count woes in their ECF quater-final against Lancs, played on 14th May at Syston. This one, however, is less convincing. Yes, the scores finished 8-8 and Lancs won on board count, but one of our points was gained by default, so Lancs actually won 8-7 on the contested boards. Details... A week later, the U160 team, having had to settle for second place in the SCCU U160, had a much happier experience, with a convincing victory over Warwickshire, by 9½-6½ at Milton Keynes. Essex meet Lancs in the U160 semi-finals. Details...
On tenter hooks Essex's SCCU campaign for the season closed on a positive note with the U160 team recording an excellent 10-6 away win against Herts. Essex have finished with 4½/5 and have qualified for the national stages, but have to await the outcome of Sussex v Kent on 26th March to see whether they have retained the SCCU Championship. Details...
Correction Uploaded CORRECTION to U140 and Aggregate stats. In the U140 match at home to Surrey (5th March 2011) the reverse results, i.e. the Surrey scores, had been entered against the Essex players. With apologies. It is believed the current upload fully corrects this error, but if any remaining (or additional) error is found, please email the Webmaster via the following: Link
You win some, you lose some... 5th March 2011 - The Essex U100 team, defending national champions, secured their place in the national stages by retaining the SCCU Championship with an excellent away win against Kent on 5th March. Many congratulations to Malcome Crane and the squad. Unfortunately, our other two teams in action the same day, had to be content with a 5th placed finish. The Open team, desperately unlucky not to beat Kent last time out, could still qualify with a win against Middlesex. Essex recorded their fourth "8½-7½" in a row, but for the third match in a row, were on the wrong side of this scoreline. Middlesex were the victors, having rather more 180+ players to choose from than Essex. Finally, the U140 team had a similar story: a win would qualify them for the national stages, but it wasn't to be. A home defeat, 6-9 to Surrey, saw the team finish 5th. 26th February 2011 - A double-header at Coulsdon saw the U180 team and the U120 team take on Surrey opposition. The U180 team, already SCCU Champions emerged from a knife-edge encounter with Surrey with their 100% record in tact, but the result swung from defeat to victory in the last few moments of the match, Essex winning by 8½-7½. Meanwhile, the U120 team went down 7½-4½.
It's close! Competition in recent County fixtures has been incredably close. Three of the four matches played to date in February have involved opposition from Kent, with Herts supplying the competition in the fourth match of the month. The Open team set the ball rolling on 5th February, coming tantalisingly close to toppling Kent, the strongest team in the competition. Only two cruel reversals from winning positions prevented Essex from taking the spoils. Read more... The same day, the U120, team away to Kent, came even closer, returning home with a point from a 6-6 draw. Details... The following weekend, 12th February, the U160 team tried their luck away to Kent and also came away with a share of the points after an 8-8 draw. Details... Finally, Essex U140 won at home to Herts, but by the narrowest margin, 8½-7½. Details... No fewer than 120 players have represented Essex teams so far this season. The stats have now been updated. Essex SCCU U180 Champions Essex U180 became the first team to secure its division title this season - with a match to spare - when defeating a weakened Sussex team at Wanstead House (29 Jan). Congratulations to the squad and to David Brock, returning U180 skipper.
Good progress Recent County match results have seen Essex advance. Read more... 27 Nov 2010 - A match of two halves: The U180 team returned successful from their away fixture against Middlesex with a win by the odd point. This needed rearguard actions in the last two games to finish, but both were ultimately drawn for an 8½-7½ win to give the team 2/2. The U100 team's run of victories, stretching back over a year came to an end when they were held to a draw at home to Kent. But they remain unbeaten and that run goes back to before February 2009. 20 Nov 2010 The Open team narrowly defeated Sussex at home, by 8½-7½, to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the national stages, while the U120 team recorded their first win of the campaign, at home to Surrey, by the convincing margin of 8½-3½.
180s start with a win The U180 team saw action for the first time this season and managed a narrow home win against Kent. Read more... The U120 team, also entertaining Kent were less fortunate, losing 5-7. Read more...
...becomes moderate start The final result of the opening quartet of matches leaves the County with an overall 50% record, the U120 team having lost at home to Herts by 3½-8½.
Good start... Three of the County's teams have already been in action, with a decent start to the SCCU campain. The only casualties were the U140 team, going down 10-6 to Middlesex, but the U160 team and the U100 team, national champions, both had good wins, the former 9-7 away to Middlesex and the latter 8-4 at home to Surrey. |
