Envelope Diagrams The diagrams shown below the issue icons above are a reproduction of the diagram adorning the address label received by postal subscribers. The idea is that the diagram is a point of interest, usually not too challenging, that the subscriber can solve, or at least give some thought to, before opening the envelope. The diagram usually relates to a game or game fragment reported in that issue.

Website readers will now be able to play along, by considering the diagram before opening the issue indicated. (Note: for the above diagrams, the answer to the first is not in 12_1, but in 12_3, and 12_2 has no diagram as 12_2 and 12_3 are being posted together to subscribers as one sending; i.e. one diagram per sending.)

Chessexbase - Latest version 2.0 - for details see: Versions blog

ChessexBase is the database of all games published in Chessex. This is an ongoing project and games will be added as and when. Games included in v2.0 are all the games so far published in Chessexonline, plus the further games from the archive, now including games from Ivor Smith's CHESSEX up to and including Volume 1 Issue 2.

To make use of this download, you will need a .pgn game viewer. Fritz and ChessBase are fine. If you have neither of these, and don't have an alternative, see the DGT Chess Theatre download in the next section.

Adobe Reader

.pdf files (Portable Document Format) require a pdf reader such as the Adobe Reader. Click on the icon below to download Adobe Reader. This is free to download, but its a biggy. For Broadband users, this will be no problem, but for those with a standard 56K modem it will take a long time. Pick a time when your phone line will not be in demand or, better still, use a download manager which will enable you to split the download over several sessions. You only have to do the download once and it is worth it.
