[Photo: John Philpott]After seven losses on the spin, the U140 got a monkey off their back, in style, winning away to Sussex by the convincing margin of 10-6. 28 September 2010  16:34:14

The Essex A team assembled by Ivor Smith for the ECF Counties Rapidplay blew away the opposition to win the event with 37½/48 and a margin of 9½ points over Middlesex. A measure of the team's success was that they also finished second in the Handicap event.

What a turn around!

19 September 2010  01:00:50

Barking pulled off a most extraordinary turn around in an archetypal "match of two halves", in their KO semi-final at home to Writtle. After a disastrous first round Barking trailed 1½-4½, but in the second round, pulled from the hat not just a rabbit, but a dove, a bunch of flowers - you name it - in winning 5-1 for an unlikely overall score of 6½-5½; a reversal that totally stunned the visitors. Upminster first to the Plate Final

09 September 2010  00:35:58

The first qualifiers from the two round robin groups in the Plate are Upminster, who collected the minimum five points they needed with a 7-5 away victory against Roding & Loughton. One match remains in Group A, between Basildon and Thurrock, fixed for 16th September, to complete the Plate final pairing.

The main Knockout competition is in a similar state, where Ilford, having accounted for Wanstead on board count, await the winners of the other semi-final between Barking and Writtle - a repeat of the last year's final.
