County Championship Double Following the feat of the Open team winning the ECF County Championship, Essex has also won the Correspondence County Championship, the Ward Higgs, scoring 18/26. Both Yorkshire and Sussex scored 17½, Yorkshire being placed 2nd on board count. John Philpott writes: "On checking the ECF Yearbook it would appear that 2005/6 is the first time in the Essex Chess Association's history when we have won both the over-the-board and the correspondence county championships in the same season. Although this feat has been achieved by others (most recently by Kent in 1982/3), we can be justly proud of this accomplishment."
Ward Higgs: (12 teams, 26 boards) Essex 18/26; Yorkshire 17½/26 (2nd on board count); Sussex 17½/26; Hampshire 14½/26, Surrey 13½/26.
