129 entries, slightly down on last year, were distributed over seven events headed by the Jack Speigel Memorial Tournament for eight invited Masters. 75 players participated in the Southend Open, 14 in 5 Round Swiss A, and 16 in each of 5 Round Swiss B and C..

Mark Hebden won the Jack Speigel Memorial with 5½/7 with Essex star Lawrence Trent fourth on 4.

Robert Eames won the Southend Open with 6/7.

John Dodgson won 5 Round Swiss A with 4½/5, local interest David Cannan won 5 Round Swiss B with 4½/5 while Phil Foley won 5 Round Swiss C also with 4½/5.

The Lightning Tournament attracted 23 entries and was won by David Haydon with 5½/7.
