111 entries, 18 down on last year, were distributed over five events headed by the Jack Speigel Memorial Tournament for eight invited Masters. 56 players participated in the Southend Open, 16 in the Major (U180) 31 in the Intermediate (U135) and 22 in the Minor (U90). David Howell won the Jack Speigel Memorial with 6/7 with Essex star Lawrence Trent third on 4. Robert Eames won the Southend Open with 6/7, with David Haydon fourth on 5 with a grading performance of 208. Former Southend CC member, Alan Downham, won the Major with 4/5, Paul Heaton won the Intermediate with 4½/5, Roger Mugridge won the Minor also with 4½/5. The Lightning Tournament attracted 21 entries and resulted in a triple tie between Peter Vas, Roland Payne and Jon Friedland all with 4/5.
