The SCCU is starting a new section of the County competitions next season for U75 players. Read that again: under seventy-five (not to be confused with U175).
Essex has prided itself on entering a team in all sections of the SCCU County Championship - one of the few counties to do so - and is keen to keep the pattern going. However, in order to run a team you have to find a captain.
So this is an appeal to identify a captain for this new team. If you would like to try your hand at being a County captain, or know someone who does, please get in touch. ECA Chairman Gavin Strachan, tel 07876550685, email gavinstrachan@sky.com, or President David Smith tel 020 8530 2118, email davidandjanesmith@ntlworld.com, are waiting to hear from you.
It is also a call to players graded under 75 to be ready: your County may need you! And if you are keen to represent the County at this level, you will also be keen to see that a captain is found; see what you can do to turn one up.

Your editor was privileged to be the one to score the half point that clinched the U175 ECF semi-final against Devon, but could have gone one better had he had his wits about him in the diagrammed position.
Of course, it’s always easier to find something if you’ve been told there’s something to find, but shouldn’t we approach every move in that frame of mind? Easier said than done.
So there you have it. Black to move, what did your Editor miss?
