Essex Online events news – Blitz Championship

Today we announce a new event and publish two Entry Forms. The aborted Blitz 3 event was a disappointment for those who had entered and completed Round 1, when at the start of Round 2, the lichess server went down and we had to abandon the event. The organising committee has cast around for a new date and have come up with an exciting solution. Blitz 4 will be played as scheduled on 29 March and the intended number of […]

Blitz abandoned

This evening’s Essex Online Blitz on lichess.org regretfully had to be abandoned when the Lichess server went down. It came back up, only to crash again and did this several times. The tournament had completed Round 1 and we were trying to get Round 2 played, when the problems began. While, had we persisted, we may have been able to complete, the situation was clearly not stable and we took the decision to abandon. Games which had completed naturally, i.e. […]

Games will be played at the rate of G5+2 (5 minutes + 2 seconds per move increments on each clock per game). Nominally two sections, but there is apparently a clash with a junior event, so if entries are not sufficient for two sections, they will be combined. Entry by online form only – link below. Entries close at 6.15 […]

Essex Philpott win SCCU Inter

SCCU Members’ Team Championships – Round 5 Mark Murrell reports on the last round of the SCCU events: Essex Philpott take full advantage as Surrey falter, falling short of the further half-point they needed to tie their match against a resurgent Kent Haddrell and deny Essex on tie break. The Surrey skipper, Trevor Jones, was the last game to finish with a win required. It was a valiant effort to salvage the draw but the win was asking too much. […]

SCCU Members’ Team Tournament

Mark Murrell’s bullet-point report on today’s action: Major 2050 The Essex fight back in the Major was not enough to overturn the first leg deficit, two late withdrawals proving costly for Essex’s attempt to claw back ground. Inter 1675 Surrey’s winning streak comes to an end at the hands of Essex Philpott and Kent bounce back with interest including a great swindle on Board 4 that turned the match against Essex Pascoe to give Kent Steele the verdict by 4½-3½.
