The first Esssex Online Rapid Championships received an excellent entry of 35, enabling two sections – Open and U1600 – to be run, each playing 7 double-rounds (14 games) on Monday evenings. These neatly fit into the gaps between 25 January and 22 March (inclusive) in the run up to Easter, before the start of the second “classic chess” Essex Online Championships. Dates for the Rapid Championships are: Jan 25, Feb 8, 15 and 22, Mar 8, 15 and 22. The intervening Mondays are already spoken for, being 1 Feb (Blitz 3), 1 Mar (Rapid 3), followed by 29 Mar (Blitz 4).
