Since 2013, the Essex Championships have been awarded at the Southend Easter Congress. But the Southend Congress will not take place in 2026 as a drastic rise in the cost of the venue has taken it well-beyond the organisers’ budget. Does this mean no Essex Championships? Think again – the Essex Championships will be held – Open and U1900 – with an extra event at U1600 – something for everyone!
The Essex Chess Association will hold its 2025-26 Essex and Essex Minor Individual Championships in a 5-Round Essex closed congress on Good Friday and Easter Saturday – 3-4 April 2026 – at Wanstead House, E11 2NT.
In addition to the Open and U1900 events there will also be an U1600 competition (eligibility 1 March Official Original (blue) rating standard list).
