ECF Final stage Preliminary Round: Merseyside 10-6 Essex At Coventry. The county of Merseyside was created as long ago as 1974, but we believe this is the first time we have played them and indeed is probably the first time they have qualified for the ECF stages?
Having finished the SCCU “zonal” in third place, Essex were not expecting to go through to the ECF Final stages, but were invited when Surrey (who finished second) declined to take up their place. At least the team “had its day in court” but the prosecution won their case by seven wins to three, with six draws taken into consideration. Slightly fuller report and a game in the U1850 team page.
