So close!

ECF U2050 Final: Essex 7½-8½ Yorkshire At University of Warwick, Coventry. On paper, the teams were very evenly matched with only a few points difference in average rating. This might suggest a very close match, which did indeed transpire, but that is not even half the story. – Michael Spurr

Yorkshire took an early lead of three points, including a ‘mobile phone’ win and seemed in control. Late in the day, Essex mounted a strong comeback, reducing the Yorkshire lead to 7½-6½. Board Count, for once, favoured Essex, but Yorkshire got the point they needed to avoid an Essex success, before Essex won the last game to finish to reduce Yorks’ winning advantage to a single point.
