County Championships postscript

TITLES Four Essex teams entered the return of the Couties Championships back in September. Two of the Essex teams – U2050 and U1850 – were SCCU Champions, the other two – U1650 and U1450 – were runners up, two went on to become National Champions: U2050 and U1450. We have received only five entries – and one of those doubtful – for the Team Blitz, due to have been held on Sunday, 26 June. As this does not make a worthwhile event, the Team Blitz is cancelled. The Essex Summer Rapid Knockout, last played in 2019, returns for 2022. Entries have been received from BARKING A, Barking B, BASILDON, Ilford, LOUGHTON, Thurrock, WANSTEAD A, Wanstead B, Wanstead C, WRITTLE (seeded teams in CAPS). In a new development, following the lead of the Essex League, the Knockout is now using the ECF League Management System (“ECF LMS”) for results entry and rating. ECF stage round up

The return of OTB county chess at the ECF stage level has been marked by a majority of counties’ progressing without play. Overall, 7 matches have been played, but there were 7 byes to the semi-finals and 5 matches have been conceded without play. Three of the four Essex teams have reached the semi-finals with the U2050 team having progressed to the Final. The one Essex casualty is the U1650 side who were well-beaten by Warks 8½-5½. Syd Kalinsky Memorial Essex Team Blitz and Lightning Championship
