With apologies for lateness, we catch up on the ECF County Championships.
ECF QF U1850: Yorks 9-7 Essex
Played 13 May 2023 At some stage in this year’s competition all the Essex teams face Yorkshire. For the U1850 team this was at the QF stage. Yorks had a slight edge on ratings of just 29 points a board (that’s little more than 2 old grading points). The top eight boards were shared 4-4, but Yorks held the edge lower down to win by two points.
ECF QF U1450: Staffs 5-7 Essex
Played 13 May 2023 The U1450 team had the opposite experience, winning by two points in a well-fought match. Malcolm Crane was able to blood four players in this match in either their introduction to County chess or first game of the season. Essex now meet Yorks in the Semi-Final on 10 June at Syston (Leics).
ECF SF U2050: Essex play Yorks on 10 June also at Syston.
ECF QF U1650: Essex had a walkover against Staffs, which was to have been played on 20 May, and get their chance against Yorks in the SF on 10 June also at Syston.
