What an extraordinary result, not just because of the rating difference, but the margin of Chelmsford’s victory is breathtaking!

Chelmsford play Barking in the Semi-Final, on 7 September. The winners of that fixture will meet Brentwood A in the Final.

4½-5½

So close to needing a re-play! Wanstead B, nearly home and dry at half time, found Loughton had other ideas after the break.

The Board 1 draw in R2 took the replay out of the equation and Bill brought Loughton their first win, so that a reversal for a home win was still possible. Loughton stood better on Boards 2 and 4, but the visitors qualms were allayed when Mary accepted Brian’s draw to take Wanstead to 5 points and a Board Count winning position, thanks to their wins on Boards 1-3 in R1. George then reversed his R1 defeat, leaving Simon, a pawn ahead in a R and N ending. But with Paul having counter-play a draw was agreed.
