Loughton |
The first match of this year’s competition and the first casualty, seeds UPMINSTER A going out to visitors Loughton. And not just a squeeze by the odd point!
Upminster were missing a couple of players, but still held a grading advantage of an average 14 points a board, yet the visitros had a shock for them. The Loughton bottom boards in particular did exceptionally well, overturning a 25 point grading deficit in scoring 3-1 and Bill Stirling’s double over Les Crane was also a key factor.
Both teams from this fixture have a Bye to the Semi-Finals of alternate realities. Loughton advance to the Semi-Final of the main competition, where they await the winners of Match J. UPMINSTER A go into the Plate Semi-Final and await the winners of Match Q.
