On 28 July 1898 the Essex Chess Association came into being. To celebrate the quasquicentennial as our 125th year draws to an end a weekend festival of chess will take place over the weekend of 2/3 September 2023 at Wanstead House incorporating a commemorative 125 individual Rapid tournament on the Saturday afternoon followed by a social evening.
In association with the 125 Rapid, we are also running:
- on the Saturday morning, the 2022-23 ECA Blitz Championship; and…
- and on the Saturday afternoon (within the 125 Rapid), the 2022-23 Essex Rapid Championship.
Essex juniors are eligible for all events.
Sunday afternoon sees a range of Junior competitions to include all standards of Junior players from the County’s Junior sections and Clubs in the Anniversary activities .
So, a veritable extravaganda of events. The 125 Anniversary Rapid is supported by a levy from current Essex League Clubs and entry to the Rapid is FREE for the first six members of each those 11 Club to enter. So don’t delay! For others, the Entry Fee is a steal at just £2.
For the standalone 2022-23 ECA Blitz Championship (Saturday morning, 2 September) entry is Adults £10, Juniors £6. Prizes according to entry.
