The visitors had almost secured their place in the Plate Final with their R1 result, bolstered by the excellent result on bottom board where Rayyan, giving 845 rating points, accounted for the experienced Dave Rawlings.
Wanstead made a spirited fight-back and won R2 by 3-2 to limit Ilford’s winning margin to the odd point.
Congratulations to Ilford on reaching the Plate Final where they await the winners of Barking B and Thurrock, playing 1 September.
