Missing no fewer than five of their registered or cup-tied players, WANSTEAD A were severely stretched and needed to call on C Team players, some of whom were already in action the same evening in a North Circular League match.
WANSTEAD B, on the other hand, were well-represented on each board and held an average grading advantage of 10 points a board.
Round 1 spelt out the balance of power, in case anything was left to doubt, with the A Team scoring what was to be its only win, on Board 3, in reply to four ‘B’ stings.
In Round 2, The Bees secured the 1½ needed for the upset result with the draw on 2 and the win on 5. To this, for good measure, the Bees added Kyan’s draw, Alin’s win and the Board 4 draw when Larry, a rook up, could not avoid perpetual check.
