Blow-by-blow – latest item at the top.

22:04 – The last game is drawn. Apparently, Alin sac’d a rook, but it was not the winning stroke he anticipated. Final score W 6½-3½ L.

22:00 – Either we mis-read the material situation on Alin’s board, or something more drastic happened as, after an obvious period of exchanges, Alin is the exchange down for a couple of pawns, but has a supported, though blockaded, passed pawn on e6. Philip blundered his bishop so resigned a rook down.

21:57 – For good measure, Alin is now a piece and two pawns ahead.

21:50 – Vladimir secures Bill’s resignation and moments later, Kyan’s attack having reached winning proportions, Kevin resigned. Wanstead win, with two games to spare.

21:47 – Vladimir is now a bishop and pawn ahead.

21:39 – Draw on Board 3 is the first result of R2, removing the spectre of a second replay. W 4-2 L.

21:30 – Vladimir and Alin are each a pawn up, but Graham has gone an exchange ahead. Wanstead, of course, only need two points out of this round.

21:05 – Round 2 kicks off. In R1 Wanstead, with the majority of Whites, won two games with Black and only one with White. Loughton’s only win was with Back.

20:45 – Round 1 gives Wanstead a 2 point advantage with their majoirty of Whites, yet two of their three wins came with Black.

19:55 – …but is now under way, after waiting for a delayed Loughton player.

19:54 – The match seems to be starting at 20:00…

19:40 – Wanstead are White on odd boards in Round 1. Loughton are unchanged, whereas WANSTEAD B show two changes, Vladimir Parols and Alin Chirea-Florica, replacing Terry Whitton and Mark Murrell from the first match. Wanstead’s average grade has increased by just two points as a result of these changes.
