No entry from Writtle but two from Chelmsford. Brentwood return, with two teams, and we welcome Witham to the competition, playing at their new venue: Bethel Christian Fellowship Hall, 65 Church Street, Witham, CM8 2JP. See the Witham page for detailed directions and map.

With an odd number of entries there will be a Bye in Round 1 which goes by Rule to the Knockout Champions from 2023, WANSTEAD A. With five matches in Round 1, there will be two contested pairings in Round 2 and two Byes to the Semi-Final.

There will be a Plate Competition for teams which lose in Round 1.

Round 1 of the Plate competition will have one contested pairing in Round 1 with three Byes to the Plate Semi-Final. To preserve the structure which keeps teams from the same Club apart before the Final, the draw structure of the Plate competition will match the Knockout so that teams knocked out in R1 of the main competition will progress to the same place in the Plate as the winning team from each initial pairing, subject only to a possible difference in venue.

Prizes

In addition to the Sims Cup for the Knockout winners to hold for a year and the Knockout Plate for the Plate winners to hold for a year, the two winning teams will each receive a digital chess timer.
