Entries for the Essex Knockout 2019 are closed. The draw has been published: Competition tables

  • Format is the usual two rounds G30 Rapid chess each match, over FIVE boards;
  • Alternatively, matches may employ a “Fischer” incremental rate of play, G20 + 10 seconds per move (conditions apply);
  • There will be a Plate competition for teams losing in the first round;
  • Teams from the same Club will, as far as possible, be kept apart before the Final;
  • New Rules 2019 require Player Registrations (all teams) and barred lists (Clubs entering more than one team) – see the Rules;
  • Round end dates (inclusive):
    Round 1 – by 28 June 2019 incl.
    Round 2 – by 26 July 2019 incl.
    Round 3 – by 30 August 2019 incl.
    Final – by 27 September 2019 incl.
    British Championships (Torquay) are 26 July – 4 August;
  • Entry fees: 1st or only team £8, each additional team £6. Last year’s winners Barking A (KO) and Wanstead A (Plate) have one free entry.
  • The Plate competition now has a Trophy.
  • The winners of the Knockout and the Plate will each receive a Prize of a digital chess clock.

The Knockout PlateEntrants are being asked to provide name, email and phone number for each team captain. This data is needed for the purpose of running the Essex Knockout competition 2018. The data will be retained by the Controller and circulated to each Captain in the competition and to the ECA League Management Committee (“LMC”) which is specified in the competition Rules as assisting the Controller, but will not be made available to any other parties. The email addresses will additionally be used in the ECA’s mail group for the Essex Knockout for the purpose of communications with the participating teams and the LMC. The contact details will NOT be published on the ECA website.

New provisions for 2019: Rule changes have been approved for application to the 2019 competition. Entries must now be accompanied by a list from each Club of the players who are expected to appear for the Club in the competition (Player Registrations). Additionally, Clubs entering more than one team must list their Registrations in order of playing strength, with the srongest players in the A team, the next strongest in the B team, etc., a minimum of five names to be nominated for each team but the lowest. The term “bona fide member” is now defined in the Rules. Apart from the above, two other matters are now codified in the Rules, which were previously covered in “Contoller’s Guidelines”, namely provisions required if a Plate competition is run (seeded teams) and the option for use of an incremental rate of play.
