Saturday 4 September, 1:30 pm to 5 pm

The Hall at Wanstead House, 21 The Green, Wanstead E11 2NT

To coincide with the return of County Chess to Wanstead House, the Essex Chess Association in conjunction with the local junior chess clubs of Ilford and Wanstead & Woodford is hosting an afternoon of competitive chess for Essex junior players between 1.30 pm and 5 pm.

One of the principle aims of this festival is to promote chess for girls in Essex, which currently has the strongest county girls’ team in the country.

HOW TO ENTER – Please complete the online entry form below for each junior player, stating the tournament preference. The entry fee is £3 with payment details provided with the entry confirmation.

A) The ECF rated rapid will be a 5 or 6 round Swiss tournament played at G10+5 (all moves in 10 minutes with a 5 second increment for each move) with Rounds at approximately 2:10 pm (after announcements), 2:45 pm, 3:20 pm, 3:55 pm and 4:30 pm. Registration from 1:30 pm.  ECF membership is not required for this event.

Current entries for the Rated Rapid are available from the **Essex Festival 2** menu in the main navigation above.

B) An unrated informal beginners tournament without clocks (save for resolving deadlock) with a different opponent each round on a similar level of success.

This is an event for those Juniors players who have a connection with Essex (which extends to the London Boroughs that are both North of the R. Thames and East of the R. Lea) whether through residency, birth, school location, club location, or having played for an Essex county team.

Under the auspices of the ECA, the Junior Festival will be supervised by Essex Junior Organiser, Robin Slade of Chelmsford JCC and Ben Harte of Wanstead & Woodford JCCC.

Places are limited so do register early to avoid disappointment.

Please note that other than in the playing rooms the ECA is unable to provide supervision of junior players at this event. Wanstead House is a “covid secure” venue with safety precautions in place. However, attendees do so at their own risk and are asked to observe the protocols in place to help.
