After traffic problems reaching the venue at Stevenage, we had a close match with the result all hinging on the last game on Board 7 which in the end went Herts’ way to give the final score of 6½-5½ to Herts.
I’d like to thank all the players for giving up their time for the match with a special thanks to John, Derek and Frank who where unwell but still played.

Report by Malcolm Crane
This was a bit of a sad event due to the week previously we learnt of the death of one of our County Players, John Ellis. He fought long and hard with his illness but succumbed in the end. We held a minute’s silence in John’s memory and that of a Sussex and a Middlesex player Martin and Tony, they will be greatly missed. A couple of pictures of John, from the County Finals 2012, can be found below. – WM
This was a match we really needed to win to have a chance to make it to the National Stage. It was a close match with the scores still level at 5-5 each, with a possible win and a draw on the final two boards. But luck was not with us; a slip up was made on one Board to turn it from a win into a loss and we just lost the other game which left us with a final score of 7-5 to Middlesex.
All of the players performed well with Charlotte on Board 3 and Zebedee on Board 4 both getting good wins for the team.
