Sean would be proud

ECF U1450 Final: Middx 8-4 Essex

At Whittlesford, Cambs. No cup, but the only Essex team to reach the ECF Final. The Essex U1450 team which the late Sean Horan had successfully charted to the national stages, in the process building a squad for the future, had its day on the big stage, but in the event lost to the barnstorming Middlesex team which carried all before it this season.

A match riddled by errors, finished with Middx convincing winners by 8-4. Congratulations to Middx on a fine campaign, SCCU Champions, now national Champions. For board-by-board details and all the games, follow the link below.

Team Captain and Tournaments vancancies

The County once again faces a serious situation for next season, with only one team captain and no Tournament Secretary. This is the current position:

  • Match Captain – Vacant
  • Assistant Match Captain – Vacant
  • U2050 Captain – Michael Spurr
  • U1850 Captain – Vacant
  • U1650 Captain – Vacant
  • U1450 Captain – Vacant
  • Tournament Secretary – Vacant

It is a truism that without organisers there can be no activity. As it stands, we shall only be able to enter one team in the County Championships in which Essex has a proud history. And without a Tournament Secretary, there will be no Blitz Championship, no Rapid Championship, no Team Blitz Championship and no Lightning Championship. In the words of our Secretary, if organisers do not come forward to fill these posts, Essex will become a chess desert.

PLEASE don’t leave this to others; if you can help with any of these vacancies, please contact ECA Secretary, John Chapman, on email: secretary@essexchess.org.uk
